Mission: Procrastinate

Ok...so I'm not really procrastinating by writing in this blog...hmm. yeah. anyway! I thought I'd share with you my weekend to Penrith/Shap in England! First off, it was amazing! We left St Andrews at 5:30 and I was soo hungry. I was looking around to find something meatless (it was Friday in Lent) and I ended up at a Chinese restaurant, I figured I'd just get rice. I ended up ordering sweet and sour chicken without even realizing that chicken is meat! I was disappointed with my spending and not being able to eat it. I took it with me to the bus and was thinking of what to do with it and my friend suggested just waiting until midnight to eat it, so that's what I did!

So we get to Penrith at around 9:20 pm and our host-mother, Judith is there to pick 4 of us students up. Along with me were two girls, Sarah and Mary, and a guy, Matt. We got back to her house and we sat and talked, waiting for her two children to get home and their two friends for supper. We ended up eating supper at around 11 and was there til after midnight! It was fantastic! I went to bed in a room with a double bed and single bed and I let Matt have the double (which had a heated blanket as well...the house was freezing cold!). It was still a good sleep...

The next morning we boarded a bus to Keswick which is in the heart of the lake district in England. We (the students, the family didn't come with) stepped off the bus and immediately had no idea where to go, and neither did anyone we asked until I asked a taxi driver. We had to wait a little while but eventually we ate lunch with some other students from our program there in Keswick and then walked to the lake in town. It was a gorgeous lake. After the lake, we went back to the bus station and headed back to Penrith where we were picked up and taken back to the house. Judith gave us a tour of her land (she has lots of it...sheep, horses, chickens...amazing.) and it was so beautiful. Afterwards, we watched the Manchester United vs. Arsenal football match with everyone. It was fun! Judith's kids (who were older than us) took us to the local pub and we played dominoes. We came back and ate a delicious dinner and afterwards, all the guys (minus me...) went back to Penrith and went to a club. I stayed home and played cards since the guys weren't going to get back until 1:30 and we needed to be up at 7:30 and as you've read before, I am not really into the club scene. It was fun playing cards and we gave Judith our gifts and she liked them a lot! Then it was bedtime...

We woke up and went to Penrith to catch the bus back to St Andrews and pretty much slept the whole way back. It was a good weekend!

Phew, my fingers are getting tired from all that typing...I hope you all had a good weekend as well!
