Ahh! More Deutchland!

The saga continues in the wee hours of the morning here in St Andrews. The weather is fair here...looks like it might rain just like any other day. I, for some reason, woke up today at 8 and couldn't get back to sleep so I figured I would get a head start on this stuff. I am continuing to post photos on facebook and when I am finished, I will post the links.

30/03

This morning we got up at 10:30ish. Jon made eggs again and we had yogurt, except with some fantastic excitement. Whilst trying to pour some granola into his yogurt (from a hefty bag...) tragedy struck and a large portion of granola spilled out onto the floor. It almost seemed like it happened in slow motion! Alas, there was a bunch of granola on the floor at Jon's feet and it made to a comical start to the day. We boarded the S-bahn and made way to the Hbf to hop on my train to Berlin. At the train station, I bought 20 euro in minutes for my new SIM card with hopes of calling Justine later in the day. I said goodbye to Jon and got on my train. Thanks for a great time in Bonn Jon! I had a blast! My train stopped at Koln and I was unsure of whether or not I was supposed to switch trains or stay on that one...I opted to try getting off and switching and it turns out that is what I was supposed to do (I think...). I got on another train to Berlin and found myself an unreserved window seat and made my way to Berlin. I don't think it's typical, but for some reason the route we took was just plain boring. There really wasn't a whole lot to see from Koln to Berlin. Oh well...I made it to the Berlin Hbf and I am supposed to meet Pat and Katie. Luckily, Katie's phone worked over in mainland Europe so I called her and found her by the entrance. A little while later, Pat came back from trying to find me on the other side of the station and we departed. We decided to walk to our hostel and I thought that'd be ok since it wasn't too far...yeah right! It took a long time to get there and I was carrying my huge pack which weighed a ton! My shoulders were so tired afterwards and I acquired a headache from the stress on my shoulders. It was a good walk though, because I saw a lot of sights along the way. Our hostel was the Wombat City Hostel and it was quite nice. I tried to call Justine but for some reason I had no minutes on my phone, even though I had just bought some. Strange... anyway we went to a nice German restaurant and I had rumpsteak and a beer tasting plate. The place we went was a micro-brewery so I got 4 different kinds of beer from there. They were all pretty good, and it came with a cup of barley. A very nice evening meal. We decided to walk down the road where the nightclubs and bars are supposed to be. We ended up walking all the way down the road and not stopping anywhere. One observation that we had was there were a lot of prostitutes. We didn't know for sure if they were, but they all looked the same and they were all standing on the street corners. I mean, they lived up to what we think of a prostitute... It was weird! Pat and I told Katie she should get her picture with two of them...she didn't but it would have been neat...We ended up stopping at an Indian place for a wee drink and I had Bailey's and coffee. It was very good, and I don't think I needed another beer yet. After sitting for a little bit, we headed back to the hostel and, for my birthday, Pat and Katie bought me a litre of beer from the hostel bar. It was massive, partially due to the large mug it came in. It took me a little while, but I managed to finish it. After all that excitement, I went to bed to await the coming day.
